CECILIA DESK

The human soul is hungry for beauty; we seek it everywhere - in landscape, music, art, clothes,

furniture, gardening, companionship, love, religion, and in ourselves. No one would desire

not to be beautiful. When we experience the beautiful, there is a sense of homecoming.”

The Cecilia Desk

A bespoke furniture piece specifically designed for one individual; to meet his unique work habits and foster a routine of entering into a creative state-of-mind, as well as being an expression of his identity. It's graceful, undulating curves, bold colours and choice of materials are influenced by Modernist and Scandinavian design ideologies.

The aim was to create pieces that belong solely to an individual, their's and their's alone;

an intimate space for quiet contemplation — a place of solitude.

This piece was hand made in its entirety. It demonstrates the mastery of wood bending techniques as well as traditional wood working without the use of specialized heavy equipment.

The main forms of the desk consists of the curved shelf and the back handle, both of which serves a functional purpose as well as being the core element of the design. The shelf seeks to be an additional surface for which the user puts away distractions such as his mobile devices; out of his direct field of vision but within to be alerted of any emergency calls. The back handle serves as a bookshelf, and also as a subconscious barrier that keeps the user's attention within the desk.
